Belfast Fundraiser

In Nov 2023, Feeding Dreams' UK Ambassador Clare McKinney organised another successful fundraising event at Belfast's Merchant Hotel. 80 women were in attendance for an afternoon packed with fashion, food and prosecco! Hosted by Cate Conway, there were amazing talks from Feeding Dreams Cambodia co-founder Arlene Gormley; Katherin Ferries, a personal stylist; special guest speakers Sandra Daly, holistic therapist, Christina Maxwell owner of Empowered Gym, Denise from bare naked, Caoihme from Accessorised by Elite. The goodie bags were sponsored by BPerfect cosmetics, Ultraceuticals Ireland and Vermillion Clinic. Over £3,000 was raised which will help finance the much-needed services for children provided by FDC in Cambodia.

Recent Volunteer Sara
I am here again at Feeding Dreams Cambodia with a friend who has never been before and today, 5 other friends plus my daughter and my niece joined us for another week at the school. 4 of them have visited before in 2018, when we came on a group visit. Feeding Dreams and the Cambodian people touched me deeply and I returned on my own in 2019. Since 2020, we, as a group have been trying to visit Feeding Dreams, so this is long awaited!
We mostly work alongside the Khmer teachers, helping with English & Maths through formal learning, but also through songs and games - the children have big smiles on their faces and so do my friends. Everyone at the school is so friendly and helpful and interested in the new ideas that volunteers can bring. The children love to learn a new game and can get quite competitive! In the evenings, at 5pm, older students come to Feeding Dreams, mostly to concentrate on English.
The friend that came with me at the start said: “Feeding Dreams is a wonderful organisation, it does so much good, teaching the children & giving them an opportunity to have an education, get some food, sometimes clothes and they have a lot of support which is so important for these children who don't have very much - they come from very poor families, so it's important to have the support, so important. It's been amazing, an amazing experience, one of the best experiences of my life.”
For myself, before I left the UK I thought this would probably be my last visit as I have been 3 times, but now I'm here I know it certainly won't be. I am in awe of the achievements of the Feeding Dreams management team and the staff that they employ. So many children are getting this help & support that I hope and pray that the education that they receive will break the poverty cycle and bring change to these impoverished, beautiful people.

In May 2017 I had the opportunity to spend a month volunteering at the school and nursery in Anlung Pi, supporting the teachers in English language lessons, and what a fantastic opportunity it was!  Despite the language barriers I felt I really got to know the children well over the course of the month, and what a fantastic group of children they are, some of the happiest and grateful children I've ever come across, and witnessing first hand what this school offers them and the better future it can provide was such an eye opening experience for me.  My time in Cambodia has special place in my heart and I'll continue to support this school and similar projects in any way I can.

Not only are these classes fun, they also have proven therapeutic value in helping people recover from trauma. We'd like to thank the Brazil's, Delphine at Krama Yoga, Leslie Guyton and AFESIP for making this possible.
